The Magic School Bus

I’m playing a game with Danielle Donders and Christine Hennbury. Danielle takes a picture and sends it round and Christine writes a short story about it. They invited others to play with them and of course I joined in! Go check it out at Danielle’s blog and join us :) This is what I wrote this week.

I never know how the bus journey will go. The yellow bus whooshes to a stop at the corner. As the doors clang open, I turn around to wave to my mom. I go up the steps and find the first empty bench. Then I sit there and pray no one will sit next to me. On the next stop we pick up Shauna from my class, and the stop after that is Jessie and Brian. But Jessie is two years older than us, so she usually doesn't bother. Brian is a pain, but he's little, so he always sits with the chaperone.

If Shauna sits next to me, I know the journey is doomed. Best case scenario, she's going to want to talk about her beloved boy band or clothes. Worst case scenario, she's going to ask me to do her homework for her. Everyone does. I hate it, but I can't really say no because I want them to like me. We didn't get anything major yesterday, so maybe today Shauna will go to the back of the bus and hang out with the other kids.

If she does, I will breathe a silent sigh of relief. Then I will take out my book. I'm reading Little Women, and I want to see if Jo becomes a famous writer like she should be. Then the journey will be magic.
