I heard a great episode of the podcast Throughline about Octavia Butler. It got me thinking about change because of this quote:
“All that you touch
You Change.
All that you Change
Changes you.
The only lasting truth
is Change.”
So, today, I’m thinking about change. As writers, we need to distil change into every scene. But in real life, people don’t actually change in a moment. Often, we don’t even see the change until it’s already happened. We need time and perspective to see change.
So, yes, think about the change your MC goes through in the book because all stories are about change. But also, think about change in your life. What has changed in the last year? Five years? Twenty?
And also, Octavia Butler was a badass and I love her.

It's interesting that change is a certainty in life, yet many people resist rather than embrace change. I don't know of Octavia Butler, so thank you Gal, I will investigate and inform myself this weekend. Yay, off to learn something
If it's about Octavia Butler, it's got to be worth a listen, thanks!
