In psychology, resistance is a defence mechanism against things the ego perceives as threatening. In the context of art, Steven Pressfield talked about how we resist the art that is true. It links to the topic of procrastination that I discussed before. My point is that resistance can tell us a lot about what we feel and where we need to dig.
So, today I invite you to explore your resistance. Think about someone or something you are resisting. Hint: it would be something you have a disproportionately emotional response to. Sometimes you would experience it in the form of procrastination. I invite you to reflect on why this resistance exists. What is it exactly that you resist?
IMPORTANT NOTE: defence mechanisms exist for a reason. Sometimes we’re not ready to explore a certain topic, and that’s ok. Don’t push to the breaking point, and take care of yourself.
