Things I (Re)Learned This School Year

Photo by Vasily Koloda on Unsplash

I honestly thought I had written a blog post about what I learned the previous year in July last year. It turns out it was two years ago. Last year, I simply ignored the whole thing, which is also fine. But this year, I kept a list.

  1. I’m a multipotentialite (which sounds only a little less pompous than a “Renaissance woman”). It’s a thing. It’s remarkably close to being human. Perhaps you are a multipotentialite, too.

  2. It’s never going to be the right time. If there’s something you want to do, just start.

  3. Not everything has to be perfect.

  4. Despite what social media would have you believe, most people IRL are pretty chill.

  5. You can actually do anything. But you can’t do everything.

  6. This is as good as it gets. You may as well enjoy it.

  7. You don’t have to be loud to have fun. You can be quiet and rebellious at the same time.

  8. Emotions will pass. They will come back. It’s okay. Let them through.

  9. You’re not as smart as you think. That’s good, actually. Means you have more to learn.

  10. Do the work. There’s no shortcut. Apply bum to chair and get on with it.
