    On Editing, Procrastination, and Fear

Read this on galpod.com. In art, it's always about fear. If you're comfortable with what you're writing, you're probably not digging deep enough. I've been editing my first novel, Labour Pains (it's a working title, I'm still debating). I've been editing it for a good two years now, on and off. I took a course in winter 2019 that was supposed to get me through the editing process, and it certainly improved the manuscript, but it wasn't enough. I even asked my creative writing

    Resistance and Forms of Art

Read this on galpod.com. I've just finished The War of Art. I'll write a review later this week, but for now, I wanted to talk about a fascinating thing Pressfield talks about: Resistance with a capital R. Resistance is a force fuelled by our fear of change. It will do anything to keep us from fulfilling our potential, from following our calling as artists. Resistance comes in many forms, according to Pressfield. We started talking about a title, cover art, and having a "digital release" which means putting the album up on Apple Music and Spotify. And I'm petrified. Interestingly, I fear all possible outcomes simultaneously. I fear that it would be a huge failure. That people would listen to it and hear all the imperfections I can hear in my voice, all the places I'm off

On Writing Block and Writing Process

Read this on galpod.com. Last night, I ran the meeting of our Writing Group. We talked about writing block and had a good discussion. First, we talked about the name. Writer's block sounds like it's part of the writer's personality, some failing of character that you possess. A better term I found is writing block, which takes away any blame on the part of the writer. But I don't like even that term. To me, "writing block" or getting stuck in your writing is a part of the wri

    Book Review: Mr Loverman

Read this on galpod.com. I was excited when my reading group chose this book. It looked intriguing and different. First of all, a WOC author, which is always good. As Celeste Headlee says, if you want to know the truth, listen to women of colour. Second, it's about a 74-year-old Antiguan-born Brit's journey of revealing to his family (wife, daughters, and grandson) his same-sex 50-year-long affair with his childhood sweetheart. Right up my alley. I got my copy after we return
